Cadillac Wants BMW X3 Rival

In the automotive industry all you really need these days is the right size chassis and you can do just about anything you want, even more so if the architecture is modular. After the well-received all-new Cadillac ATS sedan made its official debut at the Detroit Auto Show, the automaker is now considering what it can do after the most important new car they have shown in a long time.
It seems that GM thinks Cadillac has a global name that can be capitalized upon, because they are taking on the Germans on mass. As you already know by now, the ATS is aimed directly at the likes of the BMW 3-Series, and now they are targeting another very successful product offered by the Bavarians - the X3 compact SUV.

“We’re looking at options there”, Cadillac’s vice president of sales, Kurt McNeil, told Bloomberg on the show floor in Detroit. “I think it would go a little bit more head-to-head with, like, the X3.”

Cadillac already offers the SXR, which is bold and stylish, but we don’t think has any selling points in Europe. However, a smaller SUV would better target a lower price range, younger customers and people who aren’t into big V8s.
Nothing more is know about the project right now besides that it hasn’t been given the go-ahead yet. However, we expect they’re going to use the architecture of the ATS, since it already has AWD. "The fact that Cadillac is becoming more of a global brand will certainly play a role in that decision," the official says regarding the decision-making process.
