2011 VW Passat Goes on Sale in India on March 29

Volkswagen presented the new Passat sedan in January at the 2011 North American International Auto Show and confirmed, even from the beginning of the press conference, that the car will go on sale in global markets in the course of this year. It appears however that the new model is going to reach the market as soon as next month, as a report by Indian CarBikes shows that Volkswagen will debut in India on March 29.

The Germans are yet to confirm this report, but the information pretty much makes sense, especially given the fact that Volkswagen is willing to fully benefit from the market growth India is currently experiencing.

For the US market, the Passat, previously known as the New Midsize Sedan, will be built in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a newly constructed facility supposed to contribute to Volkswagen's product expansion in the United States. The new Passat will go on sale there with a range topping VR6 which generates a maximum of 280 hp (controlled by a standard dual clutch transmission), a five-cylinder petrol which develops 170 ps and a Clean Diesel (TDI) good for 140 ps.

As for the Indian market, prices and specifications will be revealed at a later date close to the moment the car will go on sale. Nevertheless, expect the Passat to continue to be a pretty expensive vehicle, just like its predecessor, with power options to be similar to those offered in the United States.

More information to come next month, so we'll keep you up to date with the Indian Passat.
