After earlier today we got acquainted with the new Jetta through a couple of leaked images, German manufacturer Volkswagen had just completely revealed the sedan, whose design is reportedly based on the NCC coupe concept car shown at the 2010 NAIAS event. This means the new Jetta no longer shares components with the Golf, but has an independent form, as a CC or a Tiguan.

With a larger wheelbase and length, as well as a refined interior, the vehicle is much more spacious and comfortable. The new model is 182.7 inches (4.64 meters) long, 57.1 inches (1.45 meters) tall and 70.1 inches (1.78 meters) wide.

Performance wise, the US market will receive the Jetta with four engines: three petrol engines and one turbodiesel direct-injection engine (TDI Clean Diesel). All engines are offered with a manual transmission as standard equipment, but an automatic version will also be available as an option. On the new 2.0-liter TDI and 2.0-liter TSI, Volkswagen is implementing the 6-speed DSG transmission.

On the other hand, European customers will be able to choose from a range of six engines,. Except for the 1.2 TSI, all engines may be paired with a 6-speed DSG (105 hp TDI, 140 hp TDI, 200 hp TSI) or 7-speed DSG (122 hp TSI, 160 hp TSI).

Safety wise, up to six airbags (two front airbags, two side airbags in front, two window airbags / thorax airbags in the area of the front side windows) are part of the equipment package.

The car will be available in four equipment grades for the US market, namely S, SE, SEL, TDI and the top-of-the-range GLI (with a starting price of $15,995) and three European trim levels, namely Jetta Trendline, Comfortline and Highline (pricing to be announced at a later date).
