Since the Germans from Volkswagen called the new Jetta the star of their new lineup, they thought it would be best to give us a more comprehensive look at the vehicle than they did back in June, when the car was first presented. Ergo, a new photo gallery...
Before we get to that though, we'll remind you a bit of what the new Jetta is all about. Built to be both larger and longer than the previous version, the Jetta will be offered in the US with three petrol engines and one turbodiesel direct-injection engine (TDI Clean Diesel), all linked to a manual transmission as standard (with the option of having an automatic version if you so desire).
In Europe on the other hand, the new Jetta will come with a wider choice of engines, six to be more precise, all except for the 1.2 TSI, linked to 6-speed DSG.
Even if it will be present in Europe as well, the Jetta has been created with the US in mind. There, the German manufacturer plans to bring the total number of VW units sold to 800,000 vehicles by 2018, with the Jetta supposed to play a pivotal role.
To emphasize the importance of the US market, VW unveiled the Jetta in a world premiere at New York’s Times Square in June. It also build it close to the US, in Mexico. The increased size was chosen to appeal to the American consumer, while the $15,995 starting price was chosen to make the same American consumer buy one.
“The new Jetta addresses the automotive challenges of our time better than the vast majority of the competition - with a remarkably comfortable interior, a stylish and powerful design and maximum efficiency,” promises Volkswagen.
