After we witnessed the model’s debut at the recent Paris Auto Show held earlier this month, the new Volkswagen Passat now comes to show us what it’s made of. The German automaker has just revealed details and a new set of photos of both the saloon and estate versions of the seventh generation Passat.

The next generation Passat will be offered as standard with front-wheel-drive, while the 4MOTION, all-wheel-drive version is available as an option.

Engine wise, customers will be able to choose from a range of three diesels and three petrols, and a 150 PS plant capable of running on natural gas (EcoFuel). The diesel engines range from 105 PS to 140 PS and 170 PS, while the petrols include a 122 PS TSI, 160 PS TSI and a 211 PS TSI.

Volkswagen has also revealed that fuel economy of the 2011 Passat ranges from 4.2 l/100km (56 mpg) to 9.3 l/100km (25 mpg), and the car will come with a 6-speed manual gearbox fitted as standard.

In terms of safety, compared to the previous model, the new Passat adds features such as Side Assist assistance system, seatbelt fastening detection for the rear seats and head restraints that now also adjust horizontally on the front seats (standard from Comfortline). The new head restraints for driver and front passenger reduce the risk of whiplash injury in a traffic accident.

Customers will also get the chance to choose between the following body colors:
  • Uni (standard): "Candy White," "Uran Grey."
  • Uni (optional): "Tornado Red."
  • Metallic (optional): "Cashmere Brown," "Night Blue," "Reflex Silver."
  • Pearl effect (optional): "Deep Black," "Iceland Grey," "Mocca Anthracite."
  • Standard colours for Passat BlueMotion: "Glacier Blue," "Iron Grey"

Designed by Walter de Silva, the 2011 Volkswagen Passat is expected to hit European dealerships at the end of November 2010. Pricing will be announced closer to the market launch.
