Back in 2009, the first Mitsubishi PX-MiEV Concept was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, and now the Japanese manufacturer has moved the dream of a Plug-in Hybrid off-roader closer to production with a fresh version of the concept that will debut at the same venue.
We do have some very interesting new features. The side mirrors have grown in size to become more practical, while the headlights, grilles and wheels are redesigned. Speaking of the wheels, the new ones have carbon fiber inserts that are there to reduce the drag improve efficiency.
The old PX-MiEV concept made use of two electric motors that produced 80.5 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque. The plug-in hybrid drivetrain also included the 1.6-liter DOHC MIVEC gasoline-powered engine. The electric bit has been ket, but the new gasoline engine for the PX-MiEV II is a 2.0L MIVEC 4-cylinder delivering 94 hp. The manufacturer says that off the line, you’ll have as much grunt as a 3.0-liter V6.
