2010 Honda Step WGN Goes On Sale in Japan

Japanese carmaker Honda has announced that its fourth generation Step WGN and the Step WGN special-needs vehicle are currently on sale in Japan, due to be followed by the Step WGN Spada and Step WGN Spada special-needs vehicle on October 23. Pricing for the new generation minivans start at 2,088,000 Japanese yen ($23,200).

The new multi-purpose vehicle is built on a low-floor and features a low center of gravity package, while its overall dimensions (length and height) and the window area have been increased to offer a feeling of spaciousness.

Moreover, the carmaker included a new under-floor storage for the third-row seats and several other storage options and compartments as well, including an oversized tray on the dashboard that starts at the center and extends toward the passenger side. Some of the seats can be folded or flipped up, allowing the customer to customize the vehicle with a variety of configurations.

Powering the vehicle is a 2.0-liter i-VTEC engine, mated to a CVT or a five-speed automatic transmission, and with both FWD and AWD variants offered, depending on the model and the package. The power unit is said to be delivering a “best in class” fuel consumption figures, with an average of 14.2 liters per 100 km according to the Japanese test specifications.

As for the interior design, highlights include 3D, self-illuminated gauges, which are grouped by function and feature a three dimensional layout, as well as an ‘ECO ring’ that changes color to indicate fuel consumption in real time.

Safety features of the new Step WGN and Step WGN special-needs vehicles include an Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACETM) body structure, a Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBSTM) with seatbelt E-pretensioners, a driver-side i-SRS airbag system with continuously staged inflation, a front-seat i-side and a side-curtain airbag system.
