2010 Dodge Viper SRT10, Details of the Last Vipers Released

As you all know by now, American manufacturer Chrysler, under the watchful eye of Fiat's Sergio Marchionne, will phase out its Viper sports car next year and will turn to the development of a replacement car sometimes in 2012. Until then, Chrysler released details of their last model year Viper, a SRT version which will see a production run of only 500 units.

According to Chrysler, this Viper will have no less than 7,600 possible appearance combinations, to make the car as unique as possible.

The 500 units will be made up of various special, limited-edition models, including Dodge Viper ACR 1:33 Edition (a tribute to the car which set a new lap record last month at the Laguna Seca raceway – only 33 units), and the Voodoo-edition Viper ACR with an all Black Clear Coat exterior and a Graphite Driver’s Stripe outlined in red (only 10 units). Chrysler will reveal details of each of the special editions closer to their release dates.

All the cars will be propelled by the 8.4l V-10 engine, which develops 600 hp and 560 lb.-ft. of torque. These figures allow it to accelerate from naught to sixty in 4 seconds and reach a top speed of 202 mph.

As a novelty, Chrysler will add a shorter fifth gear ratio (changing from 0.74 to 0.80) for improved high-speed acceleration and higher straightaway speeds. Power will be controlled through a ZF Sachs twin-disc clutch and a heavy-duty six-speed manual transmission.

The Vipers will be offered in the usual body styles, Roadster and Coupe, as well as with the ACR (American Club Racer) package. Two new exterior colors will be introduced, Toxic Orange Pearl Coat and Bright Silver Metallic Clear Coat, together with a choice of six stripe options, five different interior color combinations, four different wheel choices and three available interior bezels.
