The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is one impressive beast, both this doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t push thing even further.
And the best way to do it is to add new-generation technology, including systems like Apple CarPlay that truly come in handy when driving.
The engineers over at Car Audio Express did this on the 2010 Camaro using an Alpine head unit and a PAC dash kit, but at the same time, they also did some further tweaking to retain some factory-installed options.
For example, the climate control knobs on this model come are the ones that Chevrolet fitted the Camaro with, so you get both the CarPlay upgrade and the high quality of the original equipment.
“Good looking install. 2010 Chevy Camaro upgraded to Apple CarPlay & Android Auto using the Alpine iLX-W650 and PAC dash kit. In this install we were able to retain the use of the climate control knobs! Great OEM fit and finish!” Car Audio Express announced in an Instagram post (which you can also find embedded below).
The Alpine iLX-W650 is quite a good choice for anyone who wants modern features at a good price.
The head unit comes with a 7-inch touchscreen and built-in Bluetooth, so if you don’t want to run Android Auto or CarPlay on the screen, you can very well pair the smartphone wirelessly for music playing and phone calls.
Additionally, the same head unit comes with a rear USB port, which is useful if you want to use an extra storage unit, plus two different camera input that allow you to connect a parking camera. As for outputs, you get 6-channel preamp outputs, including a 4-volt front, rear, and subwoofer setups.
The Alpine iLX-W650 isn’t necessarily an expensive unit, as depending on the retailer, you can get it for as low as $300. Used ones on sites like eBay can be even cheaper.
