2010 BMW Motorrad Days '30 Years of GS' Competition

This summer, the GS models will be getting all the attention at the upcoming 2010 BMW Motorrad Days. The German manufacturer announced today it will also hold the "30 Years GS" competition at the event which is scheduled to take place between July 2 - 4, 2010 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The competition will have three classes: the oldest GS, the machine with the highest mileage and the most impressive customized GS. The first class will look for the chassis number, while the second class will search for evidence of the highest mileage up to the time of pre-selection on July 3rd. As for the customized machines, the jury will look at the creativity of visual or technical changes.

Prizes include vouchers for BMW Motorrad rider´s equipment, as follows: for the first places 500 euros each, for the second places 250 euros each and for the third places 100 euros each. Unfortunately, the only owners of BMW machines that are not allowed to enter the competition are the BMW employees.

“The award ceremony will be one of the highlights to mark the 30th anniversary of the BMW GS. In a special exhibition, BMW Classic will be presenting milestones from three decades of GS to illustrate the remarkable success story which this big travel enduro concept gave rise to - especially considering that it was completely new at the time,” a company statement reads.

The manufacturer announced that enthusiasts will get the chance to get their hands on the BMW Classic Special Edition magazine which provides 62 pages of detailed information on the background and development of the GS. The magazine will be available in German and English at the event and costs five euros.
