Nissan proudly announced today that its X-Trail 20GT, which is equipped with a clean diesel engine, won the second consecutive ANRE (Agency for Natural Resources and Energy) Director-General's award in the 19th annual Energy Conservation Prize. The prize was awarded by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Nissan said in a statement published today.

“Nissan's X-TRAIL 20GT featuring clean diesel was recognized for its cleaner emissions in comparison with original diesel engines. As the first vehicle in the world to achieve Japan's stringent "Post New Long-term Regulations", it provides powerful acceleration, high torque and lower CO2 emissions,” it said.

Nissan already adopted a number of emissions reduction technologies which are said to perfectly comply with the new emissions regulation to be applied in October 2009. Among these systems, we can mention the 1600 bar common rail system, the double swirl port, the EGR Cooler, the diesel particulate filter and the lean NOx-trap catalysts. In addition, Nissan struggled to eliminate the disadvantages of a diesel engine, the noise and vibration, with two special systems: the Piezo injection and the balancer shaft.

“Under the Nissan Green Program 2010 mid-term environmental plan, the company aims to develop and introduce new technologies, products and services that lead to real-world reductions in CO2 emissions, cleaner emissions to preserve the air, water, and soil, and recycling of resources,” Nissan underlined its efforts into the environmental protection area.

The Nissan X-Trail 20GT was officially launched in September 2008 and came with a new 2.0-liter engine that produced 170 hp at 3,750 rpm and 266 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 rpm. Nissan said this model perfectly matches the company's efforts in the fuel-consumption section, “representing an increase of approximately 30 percent in fuel economy over a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with the same power output."
