200 HP for the Alfa Spider

If you were thinking of buying an Alfa Spider (convertible or coupe) this is the time to do it, because this Italian model has just received a new engine, the 200 hp 2.4 JTDM. By the looks of it, this powerful engine is now available on all Alfa Spider models and comes together with a sporty 6 speed gearbox.

At first, the new Alfa Spider motor will be available only in Italy and Germany (probably Alfa Romeo' s biggest markets). This will happen in mid February of this year, and after a short period to test the market response or whatever, they will also make it available to the rest of Europe. This engine is one of the best from Alfa Romeo, having a top speed of 228 km/h and he ability of going from 0 to 100km/h in 8.4 seconds (not exactly Lamborghini territory though).

As regarding consumption, the 200 hp 2.4 JTDM engine needs 9.2 liters of diesel fuel every 100 km in urban cycle, 5.4 liters out of town and 6.8 liters in the mixed cycle. This engine respects the Euro 4 regulations, but thanks to its DFP (particulate trap) that eliminates fine dust it is only a step away from Euro 5 restrictions.

So far, only the prices for Italy have been announced, somewhere in the ballpark of EUR 40,000. The regular Alfa Spider 2.4 JTDM version will set you back EUR 39,800 and the Alfa Spider Exclusive 2.4 JTDM costs EUR 41.800. The producer hasn't yet revealed what the Exclusive version has extra when compared with the regular version, but I'm guessing a few airbags, a CD-changer, leather and all the other “luxury” accessories.
