Pontiac tried all kinds of gimmicks in the mid-'80s to boost Firebird sales, but despite all refinements, the yearly performance still declined significantly in 1985.
The company sold 95,880 units this year, down from 128,304 in 1984. Fortunately, the sales recovered fast, so in 1986, the Firebird performance jumped to over 110,000 units.

The standard Firebird was the model spearheading the series in 1985, though it also recorded a substantial drop from the previous year. Pontiac sold 46,644 units, a massive drop from 62,621 cars in 1984.

The biggest change in 1985 was the introduction of the LB9 Tuned Port Injected 305, which replaced the HO version and offered 215 horsepower. Pontiac also dropped the carbureted version of the V6, making room for a multi-port fuel-injected 2.8-liter unit with 135 horsepower.

The Firebird in these pictures was born with a V6, but the owner says they swapped it for a 305. The engine might be running, but you'll probably need an in-person inspection to determine its condition. The owner says the 305 is paired with a 700R4 unit, though the transmission skips the second gear.

I hate to describe what the eyes can see in the photos, but the Firebird has been sitting for a while, so it's far from the tip-top shape such a vehicle deserves. Seller like_15_ninjas says they didn't get the chance to restore the car, so they now hope someone else buys it and begins a complete overhaul.

The Firebird doesn't come in the best shape, and it hides many parts in the cabin, though it doesn't look like anything big is missing. It's a critical bit you'll only figure out with an in-person inspection, and if you reach this point, you should also put the car on a lift to inspect the undercarriage. The Firebird has likely been sitting under the clear sky for the last few years, and given it's surrounded by vegetation, I wouldn't be surprised to see the rust already having a party on the floors.

Otherwise, the Firebird looks like daily driver material, especially due to the changes under the hood. Bringing the car back to factory specifications isn't easy, and it's probably not worth the time and money.

The good news is that you can get this Firebird for iPhone money, as the car landed on eBay with a $1,000 price tag. The owner has also enabled the Make Offer button, so if you're interested in the car but have another deal in mind, you should contact the seller to discuss the details. Meanwhile, you can find it in Jewett, Texas, and it's safe to assume you'll need a trailer to take it home if you're committed to a purchase.
