It’s not every day that you get to work on a 1974 BMW 3.0CS so we do understand the excitement that must’ve hit the employees over at European Auto Source when they saw this Granat Rot Bimmer approaching.
The car was brought in for a quick tune up that would have it sit lower than usual afterwards. The guys fitted it with a set of B&G S2 Sport lowering springs, as per the customer’s request. However, if it was up to us, we’d leave it as BMW intended it to be. At least they stopped at the springs.

Now, we should also mention why we’d keep this car stock. Well, you see, the 3.0CS was one of the more potent versions of the BMW E9 class or New Six as the marketing people called it.

This particular range of cars was important for the Bavarians because it was released in a time when the company was still recovering from hard financial problems. It was also and age when designers used to be extremely inspired and, as you can see, their work is still looking fresh all these years later.

It was also the range of cars that started the Motorsport legacy of BMW with the 3.0CS being used as the basis for the legendary 3.0CSL model, or Batmobile as it would become known as over the years because of its extreme body kit.

However, the engine on the 3.0CS was unique, the CSL using a slightly bigger unit. The 3-liter inline 6-cylinder unit would write history due to its perfect balance and unique sound that still gives us goosebumps today.

180 HP and 200 HP in the CSi model meant that these Coupes were really fast and liked to rev really high for those times. Only 4,455 units were ever made, 267 of them in 1974. Therefore, what we’re looking at here is actually pretty rare and should be kept as BMW intended it to, not fitted with god-awful wheels and other aftermarket parts. Thank God it’s not the case here!
