Why would anybody want to take a photo of a 1978 Dodge Charger R/T and digitally insert elements that have to do with Porsche's 917K racecar? Sure, the resulting rendering is guaranteed to grab attention, but there must be more to this pixel contraption than that.
The Charger started becoming the god we worship today back in 1968, when the first generation received a makeover, one that was in effect throughout 1970. Truth be told, Dodge's muscle offering wasn't exactly a hit on the track, disappointing NASCAR fans.
Dodge literally went back to the drawing board, coming up with the more aero-efficient Charger 500, which eventually led to the development of the glorious 1969 Charger Daytona.
So perhaps Khyzyl Saleem, a British artist in his 20s, decided to come up with this rendering in an imagination exercise that sees us going back in time to witness Porsche engineers lending their expertise to Dodge.
"Think of it as a mash between a Porsche 917k with the R/T flare & character. Not one for the purists, but i'm not sorry at all haha. You'll see a bit of Jaguar mixed in too," the artist said.
Sure, Porsche is known for working on all sorts of projects, from motorsport adventures to family street cars such as the Opel Zafira, but we must keep in mind this is pure fiction here.
Those of you following what goes on on the track may recall the fact that Porsche's 917 also had a troubled start. However, the German engineers worked their magic, with the 917 dominating the World Endurance Championship in 1970 and continuing to do so for quite some time.
Returning to the mashup we have here, this is the kind of project that, once translate into a garage, would light up Cars and Coffee like pretty much nothing else. And that's something to think about.
