Let's be honest about it: the 1968 Charger was a fantastic car, but the debut of the R/T for this model year turned it into a head-turning machine.
Everything about the R/T was mind-blowing, but without a doubt, the best thing was the engine under the hood. The R/T came standard with the 440 Magnum, but buyers who wanted the best of the best ordered the 426 Hemi.

The R/T was a hit from its early days, with the 1968 model year recording sales of 96,100 units. The R/T accounted for more than 17,000 units.

Now, let's put our detective hats on and try to figure out what a very intriguing yet mysterious 1968 Charger that landed on eBay a few days ago is all about.

The car, which, according to eBay seller clevelandpap is a restoration or restomod candidate, flexes the highly desirable R/T tags, and the VIN code confirms it rolled off the assembly lines as one of the 17,000 units produced for this model year.

More importantly, Dodge fitted it with the 440 engine, and part of it is still in the car. It doesn't work, but you'll have to check it in person to figure out if it requires any significant repairs to get it up and running. If you don't mind giving up on the 440 and can find a 426 Hemi, this would be the perfect glove, fitting the Charger R/T like a glove.

The car's condition isn't the best, but it is not the worst either. It comes with the typical rust problems, including on the floors, where you can easily spot several holes, especially on the driver's and the front passenger's side. Regular patches should be enough to save the floors, but the rust has also invaded the trunk and other parts under the car.

The paint shows its age, but I've always been a big fan of old-school patina, so it's up to the buyer to decide if they want a full respray or just repair the car and drive it with the current look.

The Charger is undoubtedly an intriguing discovery, but the lack of information could make many people walk away. It's impossible to tell if the car is still original and complete, so your best option is to check it out in person. It's the easiest way to tell if it's worth your money, especially because a Charger R/T could make for a great restomod.

The bidding for this Charger is underway, with 30 people already joining the digital fight. The top offer is $12,300, but anyone who wants the car without competing with others can trigger the Buy It Now option and pay $38,500. The vehicle is located in Columbia Station, Ohio, with the auction to end in five days.
