The battle in the US automotive space in the late '50s reached new heights, especially as Chevrolet launched an all-new full-size lineup to regain the number one spot.
The GM brand eventually managed to claim the leading position after years of Ford domination, with models like Impala and Bel Air spearheading its ascension.

Ford obviously didn't abandon the fight, and the 1958 Thunderbird was one of its key players in the fierce competition for automotive supremacy.

A 1958 T-Bird in a mesmerizing shape made its way to eBay earlier this week, as the owner is willing to let the car go to someone who can care for it at least as well as they did.

eBay seller gibson63 didn't share too many specifics about their 2-door hardtop, leaving the photos to speak for themselves. And they do, as the shared images confirm the Thunderbird comes in incredible shape. The car has never been fully restored, though it received the typical maintenance with new shocks, new fuel lines, a new gas tank, new fluids, and other necessary repairs.

All of these allowed the Thunderbird to remain in perfectly working shape, so you can always jump and take it for a short drive if you feel like relaxing in a true classic. However, if you're a connoisseur, the chances are you won't do that. Preserving the low mileage should be a priority for every collector, as the odometer indicates only 34,000 miles. They are original, the owner promises, as the car never spent too much time on the road.

The engine under the hood is the original 352 V8, and unsurprisingly, it starts and runs properly.

The 352 was the base engine choice for the second-generation Thunderbird (which debuted in 1958 and remained in production until 1960), with Ford also offering a more powerful 430 V8. The engine upgrade worked like a charm and perfectly aligned with the personal luxury car concept, with Ford eventually dominating this class in the United States.

Thunderbird sales for the second generation exceeded 198,000 units, nearly four times bigger than the previous series.

The 2-door coupe won't sell cheaply, though I would've expected the Thunderbird to come with an even higher price tag, so you should go and see the car in person to figure out if it hides any secret that we couldn't spot in the photos. The owner will let it go for $18,500, and if everything is as good as it sounds, this iconic model shouldn't remain available for too long.

The Thunderbird is parked in New Jersey, and while it should theoretically be road-worthy and able to drive anywhere, you'd better put it on a trailer on the way home to preserve that intriguing reading on the odometer.
