The Bugatti Veyron is the best-known car with an engine that develops an output with three zeros, but that sort of performance comes at a mind-boggling price. Those who couldn’t afford to spend $1.7 million to experience 1,001 HP when the Veyron 16.4 arrived in 2005, you can now enjoy that sort of power for less than the retail price of a replacement transmission for the French hypercar.
For $95,000, the peeps at RK Motors Charlotte will sell you this Chevrolet Two-Ten from 1955. It’s a Sport Coupe hardtop with so many modifications it can barely be called a Two-Ten anymore. The shotgun-style air cleaner that’s towering above the hood feeds a 540 cubic inch (8.8L) V8 that churns out 1,000 HP. A Mooneyham blower makes that output possible.

The mountains of torque produced by such an engine are subdued by a Turbo-Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission. With great power comes great responsibility, which is why Willwood calipers are employed on all corners of this custom Two-Ten that combines Detroit muscle with SoCal style.

As far as the aesthetics are concerned, this car has been adorned with HID headlights, LED taillights and parking lamps, dark-tint glass, capped wipers, and a pearlescent paint job. It’s flashy, it’s loud, it’s proud, and it doesn’t need any excuses whatsoever for how irrational it may appear to other traffic participants.

For the lucky guy or gal who will sit behind the wheel, the highlights of the interior are the suede headliner, leather-wrapped bucket seats with power adjustment for the driver, dice lock knobs, stainless cupholders, green ambient lighting, a manly TCI shifter, and stitched mats. The only thing that sort of ruins the sensory experience inside this gear grinder is the Pioneer audio system, but maybe that’s just me being weird.

So what will it be? This or $30,000 more for a replacement transmission for the Bugatti Veyron?
