Everybody knows that MINI put the both the 'super' and the 'mini' in supermini. Without them, the class would have remained the same melange of cheap cars with simple, small engines and uninspired design.
But few people know MINI also pushed diesel into this class when in the summer of 2003 they launched the MINI One D. The car had a 1.4-liter engine with 75 hp and efficient common rail technology. Since then, 10 years have passed, 10 years in which MINI has continued to develop Rudolf Diesel's oil-burning technology.
Since then, the British brand has increased the power for the One D without compromising efficiency, launched the more powerful Cooper D and also put a performance spin. Available across a range of MINI models from the the hatch to the Paceman and Countryman, the 2-liter Cooper SD delivers an excellent blend of power and performance: 143 PS and lots of torque to boot. To this day, only the Audi A1 offers an equivalent diesel engine in the supermini class.
