YAMAHA SRX 600 (1985-1990) Specs, Performance & Photos

The Yamaha SRX 600 was a motorcycle made by Yamaha from 1985 to 1997. The maker wanted to repeat the success of the SR 500 and placed a more modern engine taken from the XT 600 model into a lightweight, sporty street motorcycle.

Although it was a single-cylinder air-cooled OHC engine like the one used on its predecessor, the new power unit had a four-valve cylinder head, a two-stage carburetor, a balance shaft, and other improvements.

In 1985, the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer launched the Yamaha SRX 600, which was initially made for the international market. Yamaha claimed they sold over 19,000 units. In the US market, the bike was sold only in 1986, while in Germany, sales continued until 1990.

In the visual department, the bike had standard features, such as a large, round headlight upfront, a one-piece dual seat, side-mounted rear shocks, a single exhaust system, a side stand, and three double-spoke lightweight aluminum wheels.

Suspension-wise, the motorcycle packed a 36 mm telescopic fork with 134 mm of travel on the front and five-way preload-adjustable Kayaba shock absorbers on the rear, providing optimum handling capabilities.

As for the power figures, the Yamaha SRX 600 had its heartbeat set by a 608cc four-stroke single-cylinder air-cooled engine managed by two Teikei carburetors, boasting 45 hp with a peak force at 6,500 rpm and 46 Nm (34 lb-ft) torque at 5,500 rpm.
