YAMAHA MT-01 (2004-2005) Specs, Performance & Photos

The MT-01 was an MT series motorcycle made by Yamaha from 2005 to 2012, with a cruiser-style engine and a sportbike or naked bike-styled frame and suspension. The MT powerplant was derived from the Yamaha Warrior XV1700 and tuned to match its characteristics, while the suspension and brakes were derived from the Yamaha R1.

The bike was unveiled at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show as a concept motorcycle, and the public showed much interest in the machine, which led the Japanese motorcycle manufacturer to develop a production model of the MT-01.

In the performance department, the bike packed a 1,670cc four-stroke V-Twin air-cooled engine with large-diameter lightweight forged pistons for high rpm performance and dual spark plug on each cylinder for efficient combustion and power delivery at all rpm.

As for the power figures, the 2005 Yamaha MT-01 delivered an output power of 90 hp with a peak at 4,750 rpm and 150 Nm (111 lb-ft) of torque available at 3,750 rpm. All that power was converted into motion by a five-speed manual transmission that spun the rear wheel through a chain drive that launched the bike to a top speed of 208 kph (129 mph).

In addition, the bike rolled on a set of four-spoke lightweight magnesium wheels, a one-piece leather seat with a flat profile that provided a comfortable seating position, a four-way adjustable clutch lever, and front brake lever, and a low maintenance sealed battery.
