For the 2008 MY, the Spanish engineers from Rieju Motors have fitted the SMX 50 with lighter and more reliable cast-wheels, which adds a bonus to its maneuverability and performance. It sports a liquid-cooled, two-stroke, 50cc, single cylinder lump mated to a six-speed manual transmission. In all other departments, it has the same features as its previous embodiment, such as the 36mm Paioli telescopic fork and the rear monoshock.
