In 1994, the Italian motorcycle maker launched the Ducati 400SS, a sports motorcycle in its sixth year of production, bringing no modifications or improvements whatsoever. The bike was designed for riders who want an agile and fuel-efficient machine.

The bike debuted in 1989 and was also known as the 400SS Junior, continuing production until 1997. The maker released two other versions, the 300SS, made from 1991 to 1993, and the 600SS, manufactured from 1993 to 1999.

The 350SS and 400SS versions were developed to meet Japan's 400cc and Italy's 350cc regulations limits of the maximum displacements allowed for probationary motorcyclists. In addition, the 400SS was manufactured for the Japanese and Italian markets.

The 1994 model came equipped with the same package as the previous model, featuring the same technical, visual, and performance specifications as earlier models without any significant modifications or improvements.

It was fitted with standard features such as full fairing with a large, rectangular headlight, a medium-sized windscreen, a dual seat with a passenger grab handle, a dual exhaust system, and lightweight three-spoke cast-aluminum wheels.

As for the power figures, the 1994 Ducati 400SS had its soul brought to life by a 398cc four-stroke air-cooled V-twin engine with a Mikuni carburetor in charge, boasting 42 hp with a peak force at 7,000 rpm and 35 Nm (26 lb-ft) torque at 8,500 rpm.
