The oddity surrounding the following Mercedes-Benz B-Class prototype got us all intrigued. When we first caught it about two weeks ago, the spy photographer who took the photos told us it was a pre-production B-Class facelift.
Since the W246 generation of the B-Class was only launched in September 2011, we though it would seem a bit strange for the Germans to start testing the facelift version so soon.

Instead, we speculated that underneath that duck taped camouflage there might be an AMG-tuned B-Class in the style of the A 210 Evolution. In other words, a sports model not as hardcore as a 45 AMG version, which would probably not work for a compact MPV.

Two weeks later, the prototype is back and we've somewhat changed our minds thanks to a new batch of information. It turns out that Mercedes-Benz will also jump on the “less than seven years for a model” bandwagon in the future, with most of their vehicles remaining in production for a just a bit over six years instead of the regular minimum seven.

In other words, the B-Class shown below is actually the facelift model and is set to be most likely released at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in Autumn.
