The 308 SW GT from the Peugeot 308 was introduced along with its sibling, the 308 SW. But it looked sportier. It was a station-wagon built for both the driver and the family.
Some of the fathers remembered the days before they were married with kids and used to roam the streets with sporty cars. After the wife and kids appeared, they calmed down and traded the hot-hatches or other coupes for station-wagons or, even worse, for minivans. But the SW GT was introduced to bring back their desire for fast driving and hard cornering while keeping the practicality of a regular family vehicle.
The 308 SW was longer than its hatchback sibling, the regular 308. It featured an 11 cm (4.3”) longer wheelbase. Its front fascia featured a chromed rim around the grille and a slightly redesigned front apron. The ascending beltline and the last row of windows made the car looked sportier, especially with the sculptured doors. In the GT version, at the back, two exhausts were showing, but one of them was fake.
Inside, there was more room than in the regular hatchback, especially in the back. The dashboard was curved and clean, interrupted only by the infotainment screen which followed the floating-design concept. The bucket seats in the front and the rear bench were upholstered in leather with contrast stitching. By folding the seatback of the rear seat, the 308 SW GT offered more trunk-space than a BMW 5-Series Touring from the same era, despite being shorter than the premium German station-wagon.
For the engine compartment, Peugeot installed a 205 hp gasoline unit or a 180 hp turbodiesel. While the former was mated to a 6-speed manual, the latter was fitted with a 6-speed automatic.
