Toyota Tests Winglet, Their Segway-Like Electric Two-Wheeler [Photo Gallery][Video]
The Winglet is basically a re-interpretation of the Segway, only in a smaller scale, and possibly more user friendly. While the design looks extremely sweet, the tech specs are absolutely nothing to write home about.
Toyota claims a top speed of 6 km/h (3.7 mph) which is pretty much a human does anyway. 90 minutes for charging from 0 to full and 60 minutes to 80%, is pretty decent, but this is only because of the small battery which will give users about one hour of operation. Simple math tells us that the maximum range is 6 km (less than 4 miles) and this is pretty much useless for commuting.
However, Toyota also says that they will be testing the Winglet until late March 2016, and maybe they would come up with an altogether different, more useful machine. From what we saw in the video, the Winglet is indeed a very cool machine, but it still is far away from undeniable usability.
And maybe Toyota will build an electric motorcycle in the end and be done with it...
