Its designers call it a classic sportscar, a two-seater that goes from 0 to 60 in 5 seconds. For Top Gear… it's an inside joke about fat, lazy Mexican workers. For us, it's just an obscure cottage sportscar we rarely give a second thought.
The Mastretta MXT is without a doubt a very rare breed of car. Seeing one is odd, but seeing one covered in chrome is downright impressive.
Seeing a chromed Mexican sportscar is like seeing Lindsey Lohan as a happy housewife with three kids. You're just going to scratch your eyes in disbelief!
The engine peaking out from under that rear hatch is a Ford Duratec unit producing 250 horsepower and 348Nm of torque connected to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The car was built by brothers Daniel and Carlos Mastretta, through their company, Tecnoidea. Their company has been designing urban buses in Mexico City for over 20 years, for companies like Mercedes Benz and International. In order to save weight, the MXT’s chassis is made out of aerospace-grade aluminum. The engineers have even fitted it with modern electronics like GPS.
