Even though this looks like an average Skoda Yeti with some camouflage, it's actually a chassis testing mule for the new 7-seat SUV Skoda plans to launch.
It's going to be built using the same MQB modular platform as the Octavia and Superb, being expected to be one of the most complex and expensive Skodas on offer.

This prototype has been seen testing in the Alps, together with a convoy of other vehicles. The body is based on the current Yeti, but the front and now includes new headlights and grille pieces. Skoda engineers have also added considerable width though larger fenders, which could mean the Snowman is as wide as a Touareg.

The mule is also longer than a regular Yeti. You clearly see the rear doors have been lengthened. These will be necessary to give easier access to the third row of seats, located in the trunk, just like on the Land Rover Discovery Sport.

The architecture of this model is FWD-based, and there will be entry-level models with only one powered axle. However, the vast majority of configurations will use Haldex 5 couplings to send power to the back.

Skoda officials have made it clear that hybrid technology is out of the question for the moment, since it would add about €5,000 to the list price, which wouldn't be ideal for the budget-oriented brand. Six-cylinder engines are also out of the question, even though Volkswagen is developing some that will fit the MQB. That means the maximum output for this 7-seat crossover is 280 horsepower.

Our spy photographers were also able to peak inside this prototype. Unfortunately, it was all filled with outdated parts and test equipment. But considering Skoda builds its interiors from existing parts, we expect something very similar to the Octavia and Superb. Expect the Snowman 7-seater to make its debut in the late part of 2016, probably at the Paris Motor Show.
