The Mercedes S-Class has always been a technological gateway through which new features enter the automotive world, but the new generation of the saloon, which is currently in the final testing phases, will enter an area that has been prohibited before.
You see, Mercedes has killed the Maybach brand, which means that the S-Class will be able to expand into that territory. As we previously reported, the new S-Class range will include no less than six models.
It will all start with the standard model - the one you see spied here, which will be followed by a long wheelbase one. The German carmaker will kill the CL designation, replacing this with the S-Class Coupe and the company is also expected to offer a cabrio version. In addition to that, there will be two Pullman version, which will replace the Mybach 57 and 62.
Under the hood, we’ll find Mercedes’ new MoVe V6 and V8 engines, with the carmaker set to offer both a hybrid, as well as performance version(s) of the car. We used the brackets because while the S63 AMG version, which will use the new twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 is a certainty, the V12-powered S65 AMG (as well as the S600) might be discontinued.
