The Skoda Octavia isn’t exactly a vehicle that inspires driving pleasure. We’ve got nothing against the Czech saloon/estate, but you really could’t place it on your shopping list if you were in the market for a go-fast vehicle. However, this is not true for the RS versions of the vehicle: there’s a diesel one and a petrol one.
These factory muscle-injected Octavias are pretty hot, as they borrow the engines from the Golf GTD and GTI, respectively. We’re particularly interested in the petrol unit, as this is one of the top items that can be found at the VW Group tuning toy store. Yes, we are going to present you a modified incarnation of the Octavia Combi (station wagon).
The vehicle was targeted by Motoren & Technik East, which decided to use an extreme tech approach. The 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which delivers 210 hp and 281 Nm of torque when it leaves the factory, was convinced to produce no less than 451 hp and 621 Nm of torque.
The tuner hasn’t released the performance data, but we can imagine that this level of power allows the Octavia to rival supercars (OK, this is a bit of a stretch...).
To achieve this, the company has installed a Garrett GT30 turbocharger, a race catalytic converter, a 76mm exhaust system, larger injectors, reinforced connecting rods and rod bearings, a Sachs clutch and others. The vehicle has also been gifted with a matching stopping power, which is provided by a Brembo system that uses 375 mm rotors with 8-piston calipers for the front axle.
As we are talking about a VW group engine, the possibilities are much larger. In other words, MTE can perform the same conversion for the VW Golf VI GTI, VW Scirocco, VW Passat, Seat Leon, Audi A3 and other vehicles that use this powerplant.
