Opel Opens €500 Million Engine Factory in Hungary
“We are investing billions of euro in 23 new models and 13 new engines by 2016,” said Sedran. “Many of these engines will be built right here in Szentgotthárd.”
The factory will make both diesel and petrol engines and will rapidly adapt its output to suite demand. Szentgotthárd will employ 800 employees and will make half-a-million engines per year at full capacity.
The first engine off the line is a 1.6-liter petrol that will go into the Opel Astra four-door sedan that was shown at the Moscow Motor Show. However, the engine will likely also make smaller engines, like the new generation units that are expected to arrive within the next few years.
