Opel Mokka Commercial: Don't Blend In

It might not have the bulldog looks of the Nissan Juke, but we think Opel’s Mokka will be taken quite seriously by European customers when it arrives next year.
We think the styling is quite boring, but the automaker is going to great lengths to promote it as a fun car that doesn’t follow the trend and strands out. Driven by a bearded man who looks like a WW U-boat commander, the Mokka cruises through a town where people and cars are blending into the background.

Does this commercial make sense? No, not really. The Mokka is a boring white, while all the other cars are interesting shades of yellow, brown and blue, even if they are blending into their backgrounds.

European buyers are able to choose between three engines, with the carmaker claiming that all of them have been optimized for efficiency. It all starts with a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated petrol that produces 115 hp, with this being followed by a turbocharged 1.4-liter that develops 140 hp. The range also includes an oil burner, in the form of a 1.7 CDTI unit delivering 130 hp. The Mokka comes as standard only with front-wheel drive.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
