Thousands of articles were written about Tesla’s new P85D model and we all got to know a little bit about it since it was launched. However, most people don’t have access to the range of cars we do and when faced with a model that has this kind of performance, the reactions are golden.
Reading about electric vehicles you’ll definitely hear the expression ‘instant torque’ or ‘lag free’ and that’s because all electric cars work differently from what we’re used to.
While internal combustion engined models have to rev up to get the torque and horsepower levels up (even turbocharged ones) on electric people carriers you don’t have to wait. That’s the magic of EVs and that’s what takes people by surprise.
And when a car has 687 lb-ft (931 Nm) of torque available on tap from zero RPM the reactions you get when you floor it are priceless, funny and downright rude. That’s right, people seemingly can’t help but swear when feeling that kick in the head and we understand them completely.
There’s more to the story however. Along with that impressive torque number you also get 691 HP and a 0-60 mph sprint that only takes 3.2 seconds. Those are supercar worthy numbers if you think about it. Therefore we can understand why even a respectable gray-haired lady let slip a swear word when feeling the full might of the Tesla.
