Nissan to Build New Hatcback at Sunderland in 2014
Today, Nissan and the UK Prime Minister David Cameron made a joint statement about the all-new hatchback to be produced in Britain starting in 2014.
This is a new, yet to be revealed, C-segment car, which will obviously play in the same league as the Astra, Golf or Focus. But Nissan also has a B-segment car coming - an MPV based on the Invision concept.
Combined, both models will result in more than 3,000 new jobs being created in the UK automotive sector within the next two years – 625 at Nissan and the remainder across the supply base, the automaker says.
“Nissan already produces more vehicles in Europe than any other Asian manufacturer and the model announced today will bring world-class quality and leading technology to our customers at the heart of the European C-segment,” says Nissan Chief Operating Officer, Toshiyuki Shiga.
