The current Subaru Impreza WRX is a masterpiece of rally-bred technology which can be easily used on the road, to great effect. It’s boxer engine has been turbocharged ever since its inception, giving it its very own character with the thrum of the boxer, the whir of the turbocharger and loads of power and torque.
Rumors have been spreading that the next WRX and WRX STI may get an engine of a smaller displacement which will not be boosted by standard turbocharging but the electric kind. Subaru filed a patent application in 2007 for an electrically-powered turbocharger system. They are reportedly attempting to generate electricity from the exhaust heat. It would be an extremely clever way to boost the engine’s power and it may spark a revolution in the field.

No official information has been received from Subaru but we’re sure that when they’ll have something to show they will show it and we will keep you up to date on the matter.
