Mitsubishi Outlander GT Prototype First Look

Japanese manufacturer Mitsubishi released today the first information and photos regarding its new Outlander SUV, called the GT prototype. The company badged the new vehicle as a Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV) and will make its official unveiling at the 2009 New York Auto Show on April the 9th.

The teaser photos released by Mitsubishi presents an Outlander with a restyled look, now boasting the same front "Jet Fighter" grille as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. In addition, the manufacturer promises the new CUV will use "a number of exciting design elements that help distinguish the Outlander GT Prototype."

Engine wise, the Outlander GT Prototype will make use of a more powerful 3.0l SOHC MIVEC V6 engine, as well as a "Super-All-Wheel-Control System offering superior handling and control". The CUV will also use an Idle Neutral Logic that automatically shifts the transmission into neutral during vehicle standstill.

The Japanese automaker seems to have placed a lot of confidence into its new CUV. Even if information regarding a possible release date or whether the Outlander GT Prototype will see production have not yet been released, Mitsubishi calls the "premium Diamond white hue" dressed vehicle will be the "centerpiece of Mitsubishi Motors' stand at next week's New York Auto Show."

The first Mitsubishi Outlander rolled out of the manufacturer's assembly lines as the Airtrek in 2001, receiving its current name in 2003. The GT Prototype, if it will see production, will be the third generation Outlander.

Further details about the GT CUV will most likely become available shortly, as less than as the New York Auto Show is less than a week away.
