It’s a good day if you are an Australian advocate of electric vehicles, as Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited (MMAL) has unveiled its first public EV fast charging unit (FCU) in the Land Down Under. The unit, which was installed at the Adelaide, South Australia head office, will provide fast charging for owners of the i-MiEV electric vehicle.
The ceremonial unveiling was presided by Masahiko Takahashi, MMAL’s President and CEO, and was attended by owners of the revolutionary EV, members of the local council, as well as company employees.
“Mitsubishi has confirmed our position as the leader in electric vehicle technology. Not only are we the first company to offer volume-produced electric vehicles in the Australian market - now we are the first company to provide a public fast charge facility here as well,” Takahashi said.
The i-MiEV was launched in Australia in August last year and has sold more than one hundred units since then. It is a fully-electric vehicle with zero emissions and can be charged from a regular 15 amp household power point over a seven hour period. Using a fast charge unit, the battery can reach 80 percent charge in just 30 minutes and provides an extra-quick fill of around 50 per cent in just 15 minutes.
“Mitsubishi is a long-time member of the South Australian business community, and we are extraordinarily proud of our history here, so we are always very ready to support our local market. We have several i-MiEV Foundation Customers here in Adelaide, and I am sure the new FCU will be very convenient for them,” Takahashi said, explaining why the charging unit was installed at MMAL’s South Australian headquarters.
