Over the course of the past year, we’ve talked about the new Mercedes S-Class Coupe so often, we’ve pretty much run out hyperbolas and metaphors. This is why we’re giving it to you straight: this is an official Mercedes photo, leaked onto the internet ahead of the flagship two-door’s imminent reveal date. You guys probably remember this exact photo from a few days ago when it leaked out though a company presentation.
We think it looks very sexy, even though it doesn't come with the AMG package. But through sheer length and superior front end design to the BMW 6 Series, this single photo has managed to win us over.
The new S-Coupe is, we think, far better in design to its predecessor, the CL-Class. That car looked like an American coupe with the wrong badge on it, too much of a brute. But this newer model shows good attention to detail, like any German car should.
Before we go too much off on a tangent, let’s talk about the things we know with a fair degree of certainty. The S-Coupe has the codename C217 and will be presented in Geneva next month, though a web debut is likely ahead of the motor show. The engine range, at least initially, will only include V8 and V12 twin-turbo engines, unlike the 6 Series or Audi A7, which have plenty of six-banger units. We think these following four versions of the S-Coupe will be offered:
• S500/550 Coupe powered by a twin-turbo 4.7-liter V8 with 455 HP (335 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque
• S600 Coupe powered by a twin-turbo 6.0-ltier V12 with 530 HP (390 kW) and 830 Nm (612 lb-ft) of torqu
• S 63 AMG Coupe powered by a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 with 585 bhp (436 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque
• S 65 AMG Coupe powered by a twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 with 630 HP (463 kW) and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of torque
