Lotus Exige Might Get Evora's V6
The engine will most likely be the Toyota V6 used by the Lotus Evora. The naturally aspirated unit has a capacity of 3.5 liters, developing 276 hp at 6,400 rpm and a maximum torque of 342 Nm (252 lb-ft) at 4,700 rpm.
This is not the first time when rumors indicating Lotus will give birth to a V6 Exige surface. The British automaker is said to have considered the idea last year, but it seems like the company’s officials have decided to postpone the development of the project in order to perfect comprehensive market studies for it.
The V6 unit would bring extra beef to the Exige, especially in the torque area, as the car’s current top of the range S version uses a turbocharged four cylinder engine, which has a capacity of 1.8 liters and develops 240 hp at 8,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 230 Nm (178.9 lb-ft) at 5,500 rpm. The Exige S needs 4.2 seconds to cover the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint and offers a top speed of 241 km/h (150 mph).
However, the move would be risky, as it will probably bring the Exige’s weight over the 1,000 kg level, potentially taking the car on a different pathway than that which it traditionally follows - lightweight construction that offers pure driving sensations.
