Global Suzuki Swift Sales Top 2 Million Units

Suzuki Motors Corporation has announced that global cumulative sales of the carmakers Swift model has exceeded two million units as of January 2011. The result come six years and three months after the model was introduced.

The Japanese carmaker launched the Swift as its first world strategic model in November 2004. First launched in Japan, production was later expanded to other countries including Hungary, India, and China. Today, the Swift is driven in 124 countries and regions around the world.

The previous milestone figure, one million units produced, was reached in January 2008, three years and eight months after the start of production. According to the company's press release, the Swift is the quickest-ever Suzuki model to reach this production milestone.

About 15 percent of the two million units sold went to Japan, while about 39 percent arrived in India. The Old Continent is responsible for 27 percent of sales.

  • Nov. 2010     New Swift wins 2011 RJC Car of the Year Award.
  • Dec. 2010     Cumulative worldwide production reaches two million units.
  • Jan. 2011     Cumulative worldwide sales reach two million units.
