Unveiled during the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, the Ford Atlas Concept was conceived to preview the future F-150 pickup truck, the Blue Oval's proud best seller for 36 years.
Almost three months later, Ford decided to reveal the early sketches and renderings that were used to design the Atlas Concept. Actually, it seems that Ford blended two early design sketches called Bullet Train and Locomotive.
"On one side was a bullet train-inspired truck - smooth, aerodynamic and beautiful. On the other side was a locomotive-inspired sketch, with a boxier, industrial and angled design. Both with shapes optimized to the tasks they're build to do", Ford explains.
Blue Oval designers also pondered an extended windshield that would have continued onto the roof and several solutions to provide maximum storage space. Different lighting options for the cargo were also studied before the automaker settled with the bed-mounted lights seen on the concept truck.
