No matter what we do when it comes to replicas, we always end up with the same sort of “organ donors”. When you’re trying to make a fake Ferrari or Lamborghini, there’s no point in using an old Camaro because it’s ‘heart’ is in the wrong place. Usually, replicas are based on either the Toyota MR2, which gives the wrong sort of scale, the Porsche Boxster or the Pontiac Fiero.
The Pontiac Fiero is so popular with replica makers of replicas, in fact, that most of them are already gone. Production has ended in 1988, and it’s difficult to source on in good condition because they’ve all been turned into Ferraris… like this one.

We’re not kit car or replica experts, but judging by the interest this car has had on eBay, we’d say it’s a good example. After all, it’s quite surprising that somebody has already bid the owner $25,500 for it. We kind of like it actually, and the only actual kink in its armor is the fact that under that back glass cover is a boring little V6 engine, not what you’d expect from a Ferrari. It’s even placed horizontally instead of longitudinally in the car, which should let anybody know that this is not the real deal.

But other than that, everything else – the panel gaps, the paint, the wheels and the interior – looks to be worth a bid. This might just be the perfect Christmas gift to get for yourself!
