When us mortals want to option out a car, we turn to the online configurators, but when you are a Ferrari customer, you can enter the realm of the Prancing Horse via your local dealer and play with a truly majestic private configurator.
This is what probably happened when the adjacent images were generated and, somehow, the pics leaked onto the web - the photos come from czechexotics.com via thesupercarkids.com. Thus, we now get to take a first look at the Ferrari 458 Speciale Spider ahead of the supercar’s official debut, which is expected for the Paris Motor Show early next month.
Be aware, this is more than the open-top version of the hottest 458 around, the Speciale. As most of you already know, all future V8 creations born in Maranello will be twin turbocharged, which makes the 458 Speciale Spider the last of the naturally aspirated V8 Prancing Horses - a bit like the F40 used to be the last forced-fed Prancing Horse, just different...
The 458 Speciale Spider will be one special animal. On one hand, we have the hermetical Speciale treatment, such as the more extreme seats and the slimmer soundproofing, which means you can’t use this 458 as a daily driver. On the other hand, we get the open-air experience, which amplifies the driving sensations.
Oh yes, this will be one hairstyle-ruining machine. We’ll remind you the Side Slip Angle Control (SSC) asset of the Speciale only partially tames the car’s tail-happiness, so your hair will be messed up on multiple axes.
Aided by the 398 lb-ft (540 Nm) of torque, the supercar will play the 0 to 62 mph game in under 3.4 seconds, while its top speed will sit above 200 mph (320 km/h).
Until Maranello brings us the LaFerrari Spider, the 458 Speciale Spider shall wear the title of the quickest open-top Ferrari available. Oh and Ferrari is expected to limit production to 458 units.
Update: The first actual photos of the 458 Speciale Spider have shown up on Cars and Business' Facebook page. You can see the pair of pics, which have just been snapped at the Maranello factory, in the gallery bellow (you should also mind the intro photo above).

The tech side
On a more serious note, the Spider will borrow the Coupe’s 4.5-liter V8, which delivers 605 naturally aspirated prancing horses. It is this number that brings the unit the greatest specific power output (naturally aspirated) in the world. As we experienced during our 458 Speciale review, the thing feels like it.The 458 Speciale Spider will be one special animal. Financially speaking
The Speciale moniker means that, compared to the standard 458 Spider, if we can call it so, the new model will basically have every tech area that matters upgraded, from the steering to the suspension and brakes. While the Ferrari 458 Speciale starts at $298,000 or EUR238,000, the Spider should bring a premium of over 10 grand, regardless of the currency used.Until Maranello brings us the LaFerrari Spider, the 458 Speciale Spider shall wear the title of the quickest open-top Ferrari available.
