Famous athlete Ross Edgley will try to pull a MINI Countryman for 42,2 kilometers (26,2 miles) on the Silverstone track.
The toughest fitness challenge that the athlete has ever undertaken is expected to take around 14 hours. Mr. Edgley will make his attempt at this incredible challenge on January 22, 2016.

The stunt was developed in partnership with MINI as a farewell to the first generation of the brand’s first SUV, the Countryman. The British brand will unveil the second generation of the Countryman this year, so this stunt should get some last-minute attention for their current model.

Ross Edgley has trained for eight months for this attempt and has consumed a specially tailored diet to manage his particular training regime. The diet amounts to around 6,000 calories per day, three times more than what is recommended for a regular male adult who does not work out too often. His training schedule has also been modified with the help of ex-Olympic sprinter Linford Christie and two-time World Strongest Man title holder Geoff Capes.

The stunt involves pulling the 1,505 kilogram (3,317 pound) SUV for 42,2 kilometers, the length of a marathon. Naturally, the athlete has ruled out running, because that might prove impossible with a heavy-duty rope strapped to his torso and with an unmodified road car attached to it.

Since most of us would not be able to run a marathon or even walk the whole distance of such an event, Ross’s challenge is even more impressive. Pulling a car is no easy feat, as any person who tried pushing a vehicle could probably tell you.

The hardest part of Edgley’s challenge is that nobody has ever attempted it, so there’s no specific training for a stunt like this. The athlete had to combine strength training with endurance training, to ensure he has the stamina to pull a car for such a long distance. The athlete chose MINI for this challenge because “the brand is known for fun and adventure,” Ross Edgley stated.

All we can do is wish him the best of luck.

In over fourteen years, he got behind the wheel of several hundred vehicles and in the offices of the most important car publications in his homeland.
