Following the launch of the 2015 Escalade earlier this year and the recent announcement that a new SRX is coming, Cadillac might be looking to further expand its utility vehicle lineup into two of the hottest luxury segments. According to Car & Driver, GM’s luxury division could bolster its lineup by adding a compact and three-row mid-size crossover.
In talking to Cadillac chief marketing officer Uwe Ellinghaus, Car & Driver says that a three-row crossover slotting between the SRX and Escalade is very likely. Mirroring what Ellinghaus was quoted as saying last month regarding Cadillac’s focus on rear-drive vehicles, this crossover would be a rear-drive model likely sharing a platform with the upcoming rear-drive Cadillac flagship, which is based off the Omega platform. This goes against rumors – and typical GM platform-sharing convention – that made the front-drive-based Lambda platform (used for the Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave) seem more ideal.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the report also mentions the likelihood of a new entry-level crossover for the Cadillac brand to compete with the Mercedes GLA-Class, BMW X1 and Audi Q3. Unlike the three-row CUV, this new model will be front-drive due to “packaging and cost constraints,” but it’s not clear which platform would be used. Car & Driver guesses this would be a good application for the Gamma platform currently used for the Buick Encore, Opel Mokka and Chevrolet Trax, but this seems like a much smaller vehicle than the vehicles it would be positioned against.

There is no word as to the timing of , but with Cadillac already launching four new models next year (ATS-V, CTS-V, LTS flagship and all-new SRX), chances are these potentially high-volume, high-profit crossovers might not hit dealers until 2016 or later.
