Luxury car manufacturer Cadillac is reportedly working on a three-row crossover that will slot into the brand’s lineup between the SRX and the brand new Escalade. The new vehicle is scheduled to arrive in 2016, two GM employees confirmed the news for Car & Driver earlier this week.
Little is known about the upcoming three-row utility, but Car & Driver says it will be engineered on a dedicated crossover platform and not on the same CTS underpinnings the SRX was built upon. The new platform is reportedly called Lambda II and is a second-generation version of the platform currently used for the Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave.
Earlier this month, Cadillac vice president Bob Ferguson revealed that the GM brand is pondering a large crossover that would offer a different ride when compared to the truck-like Escalade: “There are a number of individuals who just love this vehicle, but there are other who would say ‘I would love something that would give me a different ride and a different experience.”
