South Korean automaker Kia will launch a four-door coupe rival for the Mercedes-Benz CLS, BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe and the Audi A7 in 2016, Auto Express reports.
The brand new vehicle will be based on the GT Coupe concept car that was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Although the study featured rear-wheel drive, the production version is said to arrive with front-wheel drive.
“We have plans to build a GT - we spoke about it at our global marketing conference in Singapore. We’ll be mainly targeting the of 2016 or early 2017,” Soon-Nam Lee, Kia’s vice president for overseas marketing, told Auto Express.
There’s no word on what engine will be powering the four-door coupe, but word has it the 3.3-liter turbo V6 fitted in the concept car will be dropped in favor of a four-cylinder unit. A diesel or hybrid powertrain could be offered as well.
