The record breaking numbers just keep on coming in BMW’s corner, keeping them on track for the ambitious goal of selling 2 million cars worldwide this year. In August, the BMW brand US sales grew by 11 percent, posting the best result ever for the eight month of the year since the company started doing business in the country.
The BMW Group sold 5.5 percent more cars than in the same month of last year despite the BMW brand vehicles posting a double growth. That’s mostly due to the downfall of the MINI sales that went down 16.9 percent and the drop in the BMW Motorcycle demand that recorded a drop of 6 percent.

Overall, combined, BMW and MINI sold 32,220 vehicles in the US in August while on a year-to-date basis sales increased by 5.4 percent to a grand total of 245,974 units.

27,214 cars wearing the blue and white roundel were sold in August, a growth of 11 percent flat compared to last year’s results, when only 24,523 units were sold. On a year-to-date basis, the BMW brand vehicle sales are even better at 11.6 percent on plus, reaching a grand total of 211,005.

“August - and Labor Day in particular – not only mean the end of summer but they’re also the transition to the very important selling season in the final four months of the year and the strong results posted by both new and pre-owned BMW are the best indicator of what we can expect,” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America.

“Topping 200,000 sales in the U.S. in the first eight months of this year is our new benchmark and I’m especially pleased to see the results for our born-electric BMW i3 and we look forward to the sales launch of the new M4 Convertible next month,” he added.

MINI didn’t do so well though, posting a drop of 16.9 percent compared to the same period of last year, selling just 5,006 automobiles. On a year-to-date basis, the results are even worse, with a drop of 21.1 percent in demand, selling just 34,969 units so far in 2014.
