A group of researchers from Morgan Stanley believes that autonomous vehicles would bring a boost of up to $98 billion to the alcohol industry when they become mainstream.
The reasoning behind the estimates of Adam Jonas and his team is that self-driving vehicles would enable people that would say no to drinks because they had to drive home to approve at least one alcoholic beverage.

The predictions made by Morgan Stanley would only happen if legislation allowed drivers under the influence to get inside an autonomous vehicle and command it to go to a destination of their choice.

Automakers would have to develop vehicles that are more than capable of driving themselves to convince legislators to allow people to command a driverless car after consuming alcohol.

On a global scale, if the joint population that drives and that occasionally drinks alcohol would be enabled by autonomous cars to have one extra alcoholic beverage per week, the total addressable market would increase significantly over the next decade.

As Business Insider notes, the researchers from Morgan Stanley believe that drivers could consume even more than one extra drink per week if they reside in cities where shared mobility is accessible. The circumstances would imply more self-driving cars on the roads, as well as the possibility of hailing self-driving ride-sharing services.

According to Morgan Stanley researchers, autonomous vehicle technology will go through a significant leap beyond 2025, which will bring greater opportunities for the alcoholic beverage market. Meanwhile, in today’s world, driving under the influence is still a significant issue across the world.

Always remember never to drink and drive, and to rest well after a night of drinking. Safety advocates and researchers have underlined that “buzzed” driving is just as dangerous as drunk driving, and getting behind the wheel while being tired comes in a distant third.

Select a designated driver from your group of friends if you must take your car with you when going out and need it to return home safely.

In over fourteen years, he got behind the wheel of several hundred vehicles and in the offices of the most important car publications in his homeland.
