If bicycling through a city is called driving, then that’s exactly what you’re doing when using the beer bike. Beer what? An idea that was born in the Netherlands, this fantastic contraption allows up to 15 people on the board of a moving bar that has one driver holding the wheel. Think of all the other passengers as both workers and customers, since they are all pedaling while drinking their beverages.
And when we say fantastic, we’re rather thinking of the word fantasy itself. The folks that thought of it in the first place probably were daydreaming; or who knows what they were doing.
Nevertheless, the reason we are talking about the odd vehicle is that it recently received the official pass to ride on public roads. According to TimeOut, on October 6, Governor Jerry Brown himself took a ride. As opposed to what his fellow riders regularly do, however, the government’s official was there to sign a bill, one that legalized “beer bikes” on California streets.
Like we said, imagine a bar on wheels that can host up to 15 passengers who have a beer and work together to pedal while a sober driver steers it. These contraptions were quite famous a couple of years ago, but with the legal controversies around it, solely one beer bikes remains active. Things will probably change back to what they used to since now the Governor has legalized their existence.
